Before you order our pants you must measure accurately to get the best fit. We cut and sew each pair of pants individually. We make adjustments on nearly every pair of pants we make. We depend on your interest in getting a good fit. We depend on you taking the time to measure your waist and hips in inches while lying down. The inseam, or leg length, in contrast, must be measured while sitting. Unless this is done carefully, you will be disappointed in the fit of the pants. Someone must help you measure and always measure twice to make sure all measurements are correct. We will need the following for the best fit: Waist, Inseam, and Hips. Please read below on how to find your size for each section.
You can also watch the following video on how to measure for custom made pants:
How to measure (remember to measure twice):
Waist: To get your waist size, measure lying down directly above the belly button and below the ribcage, relax your abdominal muscles. Wrap the measuring tape completely around your waist starting above the belly button. Begin at the spot on the tape where the measure reads "0" (zero). Make sure the tape is level around your waistline--not too loose, not too tight. (Note: You'll get the most accurate results on bare skin.) However, make sure the tape is not squeezing into your skin. The number that meets the "0" (zero) after you have circled your entire waist is your waist measurement.
Hips: To get the hip measurement, measure lying down, wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the hip area; this is almost always over the buttocks or approximately 7" or 8" below the waistline. Wrap the measuring tape completely around your hips. Begin at the spot on the tape where the measure reads "0" (zero). Make sure the tape is level around your hips--not too loose, not too tight. (Note: You'll get the most accurate results on bare skin.) The number that meets the "0" (zero) after you have circled your entire hips is your hip measurement. Why do we need your hip measurement? It helps us decide what pattern to use and to give you a better fit especially if your waist is over 40" inches.
Inseam: To get the inseam, measure when you are seated. (1)Start from the underside of the crotch (known as the top inseam point) to the (2) top of the knee and then down to the (3)bottom side of the ankle (the lowest inseam point).
A word on fit:
The smaller the pant waist pattern, the slimmer the legs and thighs. The longer your legs, the more tapered the pant leg bottom will be, because the leg tapers as it travels down. A 26" inseam will be about 20" wide at the hem. A 36" inseam will be about 16" wide at the hem, a skinny leg. If your legs are long, and you wear boots or have an orthotic, be sure to ask for the lower leg to be widened.
A person ordering the 46" waist pattern with an inseam of 26" would find that it produced short, very wide legs. These legs would be cut and hemmed before they have much chance to taper down. 26" is mid calf for many people. If your waist is over 36" but your legs are 26" or less, we will try to use a smaller pattern than your waist size and add to the waist. This produces slimmer thighs and hips.
The largest waist pattern size we make is 44", with 56" hips. We can use the 44" pattern and add to the waist up to 4", to produce a 50" waist pant- but you must be sure that your hips will be comfortable in a pant with 56" wide hips. Your hips should be no more than 52".
We do not accept unsolicited pants. If you send us your pants to be copied, we will donate them to Goodwill. We do not copy pants. We only manufacture pants. Copying requires about a $200 investment on our part with a designer/pattern maker. It is not free to copy pants. Our seamstresses manufacture from our patterns, but they don't create.
Non-returnable pants include:
A pant or short that has been laundered or that is not in good condition (has a stain, looks worn, a tear, or is full of pet hair).
